Las Vegas with Kids - Part I

Las Vegas is often referred to as a playground for adults, but what about the little ones?  They need something to keep them entertained, rain or (always) shine, or even snow!  Here are my best recommendations for travel with kids to Las Vegas.

1. Town Square Children’s Park – Now Open!  Located near Interstate 15 and the Interstate 215 Beltway (just south of Mandalay Bay on Las Vegas Blvd), Town Square is a convenient drive for everyone.  It features plenty of shopping and eats and great Happy Hours for adults, but is also a treat for kids too. The newly renovated Children’s park is now open and features  a climbing cube, slides, a trampoline, a Pop Jet fountain (weather permitting) and more. Hours for the park are Monday- Sunday 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.  Hours may vary for holidays, special events and inclement weather.  Please see the link for all playground rules, masks are required and they are limiting capacity at this time. FREE

2. The Wildlife Habitat at the Flamingo– What kid doesn’t love animals? 15 acres of trees, ponds, and waterfalls house over 300 birds as well as turtles, swans, ducks, koi, goldfish, and yes, Chilean flamingos.  This peaceful and quiet attraction may have you forgetting you’re even in Las Vegas.   The habitat is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is always FREE.  You can find it inside the Flamingo hotel and casino, next to the pool area.

3. M&M’s World Las Vegas & Hershey’s World– M&M’s World is four floors of fun and candy.  Kids love roaming through the store, where you can personalize M&M’s, check out the Nascar replica, and watch their 3D M&M’s movie starring Red and Yellow.  While you will certainly end up spending a little bit of money on those candies, the 3D movie is FREE.  Open daily 10am-9pm.  3D Movie is open until 8pm on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, and until 6pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.   M&Ms World is located in the Showcase Mall next to the MGM Hotel and Casino. (3785 South Las Vegas Blvd).  Just across the street, at the New York New York Hotel and Casino, is another candy giant, Hershey’s Chocolate World.  It features over 800 Hershey’s Chocolates and Candies, including a sculpture of the Statue of Liberty made out of almost 800 lbs. of HERSHEY’S Milk Chocolate.  Store hours are 9am-11pm Sunday –Thursday, and 9am-midnight Friday and Saturday.  (3790 South Las Vegas Blvd). You’ll be sure the kids will fulfill their candy fix visiting these two attractions.

4. The Bellagio Fountains– We’ve all seen them in the movies.  But, if you’ve never witnessed them in person, put it on your list.  With more than 1000 fountains lit up and dancing to music, it’s a spectacle that no one should miss.  And it’s FREE.   The music performances range from Broadway show tunes to Billie Jean and UpTown Funk.  My personal favorite is Con Te Partiro (Time to Say Goodbye) featuring Andrea Bocelli, because well, it’s Bocelli.   The combination of lighting and music and the power of these fountains make for a very memorable experience.  Just be sure to arrive early to get the best view as it becomes crowded quickly.  Fountains run daily on weekdays starting at 3pm, Saturdays starting at noon, Sundays beginning at 11am and end at midnight.

5. Bellagio Conservatory and Botanical Gardens– While checking out the fountains, head inside Bellagio just past the front desk to the 14,000 square foot Conservatory.  This is where the talented horticulture staff transforms the space seasonally using thousands of flowers and trees.  This masterpiece is open day and night and is always FREE to view.

6. Circus Circus Carnival Midway– FREE Midway performances are postponed until further notice.  Located inside the Circus Circus, the world’s largest permanent circus, the Carnival Midway brings world class circus acts to the stage for all.   The Midway features loads of games and prizes, as well as an arcade, but the circus acts are FREE.   They feature jugglers, clowns, hand balancers, as well as trapeze artists.  Performances start at 11:30 am daily, and the Midway hours are Sunday thru Thursday 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday 11:00 AM to 11:00 PM.

7. Tree House & Play Zone at Container Park– (Temporarily Closed)  More FREE and cheap fun for kids just a few blocks from the Fremont Street Experience, open air shopping park has something for everyone.  Kids will love the 33 ft slide coming out of this 40’ high shipping container tree house, with lots of room to run.  Shop, grab a bite to eat and let the kiddos play.   Retail and dining open at 11, and the container park is 21+ after 9pm.

8. Discovery Children's Museum - Three-stories tall in stature, the DISCOVERY Children’s Museum is home to nine-themed exhibition halls totaling 26,000 square feet of interactive hands-on core exhibits in the areas of Arts & Humanities, Science & Nature and Early Childhood Education. The 5,000 square foot Featured Exhibitions Gallery is large enough to accommodate major exhibits from the nation’s leading museums.

9. Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay - Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay offers 14 exhibits containing 1,200 species of exotic and endangered fish, reptiles and — of course — sharks. Shark Reef at Mandalay Bay is home in the dusty desert that is Las Vegas serves as a contrast but also shows the commitment the Strip has to entertainment and conservation.

At Shark Reef you'll enjoy up-close views of more than 100 sharks, including 30 in the 1.3 million-gallon (4.9 million-liter) main tank, one of the largest in the US. By walking through two underwater tunnels, get an even better sense of what it's like to be under the sea.

Where to eat the Best Brunch Buffet?

My recommendation is

The brunch buffet features all-new action with breakfast and lunch offerings available daily from open to close. New breakfast selections include Southern and Mexican-influenced dishes as well as a made-to-order omelet station and waffles. Lunch offerings include Classic American, Asian and Southern influenced dishes. There's also a complete salad bar including fresh tossed specialty salads. Rounding it out on a sweet note, the buffet features a dessert bar and made-to-order crepes.

Station themes remain the same while specific items at each station constantly change, leaving an extensive amount of options and creating a new experience with each visit. The abundance of choices continues with the buffet’s beverage selection.

WHAT TO EAT AT THIS SCENIC LAS VEGAS BUFFET:

  • Made-to-order omelet station

  • Cajun and Southern-inspired dishes

  • Made-to-order crepes station

EXPERT TIPS

  • Sprawling spread of desserts, plus frozen yogurt

  • Peaceful view of nearby flamingos, birds and ducks

  • Use the Buffet of Buffets pass here

If you never went to a Taco Bell with some beers and alcoholic drinks you need to go to the Taco Bell Cantina at Las Vegas Strip

Also you need to visit the Freemont Street to enjoy the vintage Las Vegas, during the night you can enjoy a lights and music show for free walking on the street.
